What products do you sell? Tell me more about them and their awesomeness!

I sell skin care and hair care products. My Signature Buttercream is Raw Shea Butter infused with organic oils and whipped to a smooth, fluffy consistency. It fades blemishes and reduces redness in the skin. It promotes hair growth and tames frizz. It has a dual-purpose and it’s 100% organic. I created three scents: Bergamot, Lemongrass and Lavender.

I also have Hair Growth Oils in two scents: Rosemary and Peppermint. Our Hair Growth Oils relieve itchy scalp, softens dry hair and promote healthy hair growth.

How did you get started making what you do? How/Where did you learn how to make them?

Growing up, my hair was dry, brittle, and I could not retain any length. I was determined to find a natural way to moisturize my hair and bring it back to life. I did some research and discovered the benefits of Shea Butter. I got to work and in 2014 I made my first batch of whipped Shea Butter. My hair was becoming healthier and I never looked back. I continued to make my personal batches for 2 years.

During those 2 years, my mother was surviving ovarian cancer. Once you are faced with cancer, you soon realize the importance of what you put in your body and what you put on your body. She wanted to find a natural skin care product to replace her harmful and cancerous ones. I told her about the skin benefits of shea butter, and she was immediately sold. So, I started making my whipped shea butter for my mother as well.

When did you decide to turn that into a business and why?

On August 6th 2016, My mother and I were talking about how beneficial my whipped shea butter is. She stated that it is the only moisturizer she uses because it is 100% organic. My mother encouraged me to sell my whipped shea butter to help other people obtain healthy hair and skin. That same day I came up with the name, “Melanation Products”.

What are your top 3 BIGGEST goals for your business? Not even just sales-wise, but "change the world"-wise.

My first business goal is more of a short-term goal. I have been pushing myself to reach weekly, monthly and annual sales goals and I have been hitting the mark. Next year (2020) my new annual sales goal is $2,500. I have a plan including an April Launch Party, discounts and vendor events. All with my sales goal in mind.

My second goal is my long-term goal. I want to make Melanation Products my full-time job. I want it to grow into a corporation and I believe we will keep growing.

My third goal is to educate everyone on the harmful effects of toxic products. I want my company to be a constant reminder of the healthy alternatives.

You recently launched all of your awesome products and a new website! What advice would you give to fellow boss babes in the same position?

My advice to fellow Boss Babes trying to launch their new product, service or website is to have a great team and to have confidence. Having a great team to help you along the way is crucial to your success because you can not do it all by yourself. Having confidence is my second piece of advice. In order to attempt to plan a launch you first need to believe you can do it. There will be so many obstacles, but you cannot give up on yourself. You must believe in yourself.

How has your business changed you and how you think about the world?

My business has shown me that I’m capable of more than I thought. I have so much confidence now and I believe that I can do anything I put my mind to. My business has also changed the way I look at people. Some of us are realizing the harsh effects of beauty products, but we still have a long way to go. We need to start informing ourselves of what we put on our body. I made it my mission to educate people of healthy, organic products like Melanation Products.

What are your top 3 favorite inspirational/motivational quotes?

“Think like a Queen. A Queen is not afraid to fall. Failure is another steppingstone to greatness.”   ~Oprah Winfrey

“We may encounter many defeats, but we must not be defeated.”   ~Maya Angelou

“Always stay true to yourself and never let what somebody else says distract you from your goal.”   ~Michelle Obama

In many ways, females have been the underdogs of business- how do you combat that? What changes in the business world do you hope to see for females?

Females have been the underdogs of business for many years, but I do feel that things are changing for millennial women. There are more women in power than ever before and I believe it will only get better. Women are taking over and creating their own futures. One change in the business world that should happen is equal pay. Yes, women are getting these high paying jobs, but men are still being paid more for the same work. It needs to stop.

Who are your top 3 role models and why?

My Mother, Stacy Jones, (The Creator of Bead Behavior) has been my number one role model ever since I was a little girl. I’ve always admired how graceful she handles the toughest circumstances. My mother was a single mother and she was still able to give me the best childhood a girl could ask for. I also adore her confidence level. She knew her self-worth and knew what she was capable of. Her encouragement is the only reason I am a business owner today.

My second role model is my little sister, Zoe Jones, and yes I said “little”. Zoe is 8 years younger than me I look up to her abundantly. She is an 18 year old Instagram Famous Hair Stylist with an online store called “Exclusively Juicyy”. She named her store after her Instagram Name: Juicyy Hair Productions. My sister is the hardest working person I know, and she has a clear vision of her goals. Procrastination and laziness are not in her vocabulary. She knows who she is and everything she does pushes her one step closer to her end goal.

My third role model is the famous multi-millionaire 25 year old Christian Entrepreneur, Dana Chanel. She is the Creator of “Sprinkle of Jesus”, “Curl Bible” and she invests in numerous companies. I came across her motivational Instagram posts just a few months ago and I’m glad I did. Her focus is to build generational wealth and to stop the curse of poverty. She is an inspiration to entrepreneurs of all ages.
